BioGenerator, an evergreen investor that creates, grows, and invests in promising companies and entrepreneurs, has recently participated in a $1.2 million round of funding for AgTech startup S4.
S4 leverages satellite images of farms and big data analytics to reduce risk by predicting crop yields and helping its users make more informed decisions. S4 operates in a B2B2C model- its customers include insurance companies, ag suppliers, large food suppliers, and other agribusinesses. Originally founded by an Argentinian team, S4 has shifted focus to the US after an investment by St. Louis-based The Yield Lab earlier in the year.
Dan Broderick, vice president of BioGenerator, explained in a company release, “With the growing need for more sustainable agriculture, the use of big data is becoming increasingly important,” adding that, “S4 has developed a tool to enable players in the agriculture value chain to manage risk; the fact that it already has significant customer validation was appealing to BioGenerator.”
