Agtech startup, PowWow, which uses data including aerial imaging and water usage history to track the functioning of agricultural water systems, then texting the farmer if it detects leaks or unusually heavy water usage, has raised $3 million.
Of the total funding, $2.3 million is a combination of funding from the University of California, Davis, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a grant from the state of California, while the remaining $700,000 is from angel investors.
Over the next year, the company aims to work to gain scale before applying to investors for another round of funding. Although scale can be difficult to achieve in this sector, the ongoing California drought, combined with the company’s ability to allow farmers to optimize the utilization of their available water may help support the company’s drive for growth.
