Chile: Seafood Exports Volume and Value Increase

In the first five months of 2013, the value of fishery and aquaculture product exports from Chile reached a value of almost USD$2 billion – an increase of 4.9% over the same period in 2012.  The volume of exports for January through May 2013 increased 13.2% over 2012 reaching 607,245 tons from 536,185 tons the previous year.  The main exported product was the Atlantic salmon which accounted for 38% of the revenue from foreign sales (USD$8.26 million), followed by the Rainbow trout accounting for 15.4%, and the Pacific salmon accounting for 11.7%.  The top five destinations for Chilean products were the U.S., Japan, China, Brazil and Russia.  To read more about fish meal exports, the capture sector value of exports, preserved food exports and frozen seafood exports:
