COFCO Gains Grain Origination Foothold in Eastern Europe Through Nidera Subsidiary

COFCO subsidiary, Dutch grain trader, Nidera, is building a grain silo with the capacity of 18,000 tons of grain on the Danube at Corabia, Romania. This silo which will facilitate the throughput of 60,000 tons of grain per season is the first of five planned silos in the region. This project will give Nidera, and therefore COFCO, direct access to the Danube for the first time, after purchasing the largest grain export terminal at the port of Constanta with the capacity of 250,000 tons of grain for €100 million last year. The terminal has the ability to intermediate up to 1 million tons of grain exports per season, and can simultaneously load two Panamax vessels of 55,000 to 80,000 tons each.
