Feronia, Inc., operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced it will be replanting 5,000 hectares of oil palm between March 15th and November of 2014 with no deforestation or displacement of local populations. Feronia currently has 20,759 hectares of oil palm planted of which 9,723 are producing and 11,036 are immature. This is the first year that trees planted by Feronia- which were planted in 2010, will be coming into production since purchasing the business from Unilever in 2009. By the end of 2014 the company plans to have replanted a total of over 17,000 hectares, effectively reducing the overall age profile of its plantations, and which in the coming years will increase yields and production.
