Global Aquaculture Market is Expected to Grow at a CAGR of 5.1% from 2013 – 2019

In 2012 the volume of the global freshwater aquaculture production was 66.5 million tons with a value of US$135.10 billion.  The value of the market is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.1% between 2013 and 2019 to reach US$195.13 billion and the volume of the market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 2.3% between 2013 and 2019.  In 2012 freshwater aquaculture accounted for over 60% of total production and by the end of 2015 aquaculture is forecast to exceed the wild-caught fish industry as the major source for human consumption Marine water aquaculture is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.4% between 2013 and 2019 on increased demand for sea fishes.  China dominated production in the industry accounting for over 60% of total production and is expected to experience the fastest growth during the period to 2019 because of cheap labor and ease of availability of natural resources.  Carps were the biggest segment of the market at 36% of global production in 2012 due to their ability to thrive in less than optimal conditions.  Mollusks such as clams and mussels will be the fastest growing segment of the industry growing at a CAGR of 2.6% to 2019 in large part because of the expansion of poly culture systems that combine rice production with freshwater aquaculture.
