U.S. beef exports increased 13% in volume to reach 1.172 million metric tons and realized an increase in value of 3% equaling $6.16 billion in 2013 making the U.S. the world’s second leading exporter based on value behind Brazil and the world’s fourth-leading beef exporter based on volume behind Brazil, Australia, and India. Brazil’s export volume jumped 22% in 2013 year on year after the country has been working on rebuilding its cattle herd since 2007. Brazil’s exports to Hong Kong increased 83% over 2012, exports to Russia increased 20%, exports to Venezuela increased 80%, exports to the EU increased 10% and exports to Egypt increased 4%. Australia’s beef exports increased 13% over the previous year as well however this jump is due to the country liquidating as a result of drought. Australian exports to China increased 295%, exports to Saudi Arabia increased 362% and exports to South Korea increased 15%.
