Paris-based Ynsect, an insect biotechnology company that produces products such as feed that is biosourced from insects, has raised €5.5 million in capital in its second round of fundraising only nine months after raising €1.8 million in its first round. The bulk of the investment will be provided by Singapore-based New Protein Capital, however, previous investors, Emertec Gestion and Demeter Partners have also made commitments. Production of insect-sourced feed has not reached commercial scale as of yet, however some feed companies have begun trials of the products, and as food demand doubles by 2050, insect production and transformation could be part of a viable solution to meeting this demand. In the coming year Ynsect will begin to industrialize its process and expand its reach to overseas manufacturing companies.
