JBS, the world’s biggest meatpacker and owner of Pilgrim’s Pride, is extending its presence further into the poultry sector with the acquisition of Sao Paulo-based Céu Azul Alimentos for $111 million. Céu Azul brings with it two processing plants, feed mills, and incubators with the capacity to process 330,000 birds per day. JBS entered into Brazil’s chicken industry through the purchase of the Seara pork and poultry assets from Marfrig two years ago. The acquisition of Céu Azul is additionally important because aside from its processing assets, Céu Azul also includes licenses to export to major markets which are of particular importance to JBS’ strategy of international expansion.
