Mitsui & Co. Ltd and Brazil-based SLC Agricola SA have created the joint venture, large scale agricultural production company named SLC MIT Empreendimentos Agricolas LtdaSA. SLC Agricola operates 320,000 hectares over 14 farms in six Brazilian states focusing on soybeans, cotton and corn. Mitsui has been involved in agricultural production in Brazil since 2007 through its subsidiaries Multigrain Group, specifically Agricola Xingu SA which operates 116,000 hectares over farms in three Brazilian states producing soybeans, corn and cotton. The joint venture company will lease 22,000 hectares from Xingu and begin agricultural production in October 2013.
