Monsanto Offers Brazilian Farmers Royalty-Free Soybeans

 

Brazilian farmers who sign an agreement to forego a claim in a patent dispute against Monsanto will not have to pay the technology fee on RoundUp Ready soybean seeds for two growing seasons.  The agreement would resolve claims by growers that the patent on the original RoundUp Ready soybeans expired in 2010 which Monsanto claims is in effect until late 2014.  The agreement is supported by the Agriculture & Livestock Confederation of Brazil and ten other state agricultural federations across Brazil.  Monsanto suspended collection of royalties in Brazil for a couple of months late last year on court order and has informed investors to not expect any revenue from Brazil soybeans this year.
