Sioux Falls, South Dakota- based Poet LLC and its Dutch partner are planning to open their joint venture, $250 million Poet-DSM Advanced Biofuels cellulosic ethanol plant in Iowa early next year. Poet is the largest ethanol company in the U.S. and this plant will be the first Poet operation to produce ethanol from agricultural waste such as corn stalks, corn cobs and leaves. The plant will have a capacity of 20 million gallons of ethanol per year and will license their technology to other plants around the world. DSM invested $150 million and is providing their technology of using enzymes and yeasts in the production of cellulosic ethanol and Poet is building and operating the plant.
