Demonstrations that began in the beginning of January in Poland are spreading and growing larger. Polish farmers are against the selling of Polish farmland to foreign multinational corporations who can then plant genetically modified (GM) crops on the land. Poland has officially banned the planting of GM crops as of January 28, 2013; however, it is allowing the trading of GM seeds in compliance with the EU directive that would allow GM crops planted in designated areas. The demonstrators have been in negotiations with the government but as of yet none of their demands have been met. If the government continues fail to respond the farmers plan to block-off Warsaw in a massive demonstration.
