Russia Curbs Chicken Imports, but Hikes Egg Needs

The expansion of the Russian broiler chicken flock has outgrown the ability of the domestic egg producers to meet the need creating an increase in the importation of hatching eggs.  The poultry sector’s share of the imported hatching eggs will be 12% in 2013 and is expected to increase to 14% by 2015.  Russia’s broiler industry will produce a record 3.05 million tons of meat 2013 – up 120,000 tons from a year earlier and is expected to reach 3.30 million tons in 2014.  The extra production will enable producers to meet the country’s demand for poultry keeping imports down.
