Russia Planning to Increase Annual Poultry Meat Production by 2020

In 2013 Russia produced 5.1 million tons of poultry meat and the country plans to increase this annual production to more than 6 million tons by 2020 according to the country’s Ministry of Agriculture.  Investments in the Russian poultry sector have reached 300 billion rubles (US$8.34 billion) in recent years driving more than 400 facilities within the industry to modernize and upgrade operations.  The share of chilled poultry meat in the Russian market has recorded an upward trend to between 50% and 60% of total production and per capita poultry meat production is currently 26.6 kg per person as consumption stands at 29.3 kg per person.  Poultry meat imports to Russia stand at only 10% of Russia’s poultry meat market.
