Soybean Demand Stronger Than Expected on China, Oil World Says

Soybean exports for September through November 2013 have set a global record as China rebuilds its stocks.  Global exports were 28.4 million metric tons in the three months through November from 23.9 million tons in the same period last year.  China is expected to account for 64% of global imports for 2013/14 – up from 61% the year before.  China is rebuilding its soybean stocks and has stepped up imports from the U.S. after dealing with export delays caused by logistic bottlenecks in Brazil last year.  China’s soybean imports are forecasted to total 69.7 million tons in 2013/14, up from 59.9 million tons and total world exports of soybeans are expected to increase 11 million tons to 108.6 million tons for 2013/14.  Within the first six months of 2013 U.S. soybean exports reached 85% of total expected exports for the year.  Brazil should once again be the top soybean exporter in the world with 45 million tons, followed by the U.S. with 40 million tons and Argentina with 9.3 million tons.
