Spruce Capital Partners in partnership with Xeraya Capital have announced the first close of its biogreentech fund, MLS Capital Fund II with $150 million in commitments. The venture fund will invest in a diversified portfolio of biogreentech companies at various stages of development that span plant and animal agriculture, food production, feed and nutrition, and biorenewable chemicals and materials. The fund will also seek parallel opportunities in ‘big data analytics’, robotics, harvesting, use of natural resources, and synthetic biology. The fund will focus on generating value by supporting innovative pursuits of multinational companies, and supporting portfolio companies with expanding into markets in Asia and the Americas while addressing global needs for food and energy security and sustainability in the face of an aging population. The fund will have offices in San Francisco and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
