Stevia’s Use as Ingredient May More Than Double by 2017

According to Mintel and Leatherhead Food Research the global value of stevia used in the manufacturing of food and beverages was $110 million in 2013 and will likely reach $275 million in just four years, by 2017.  The majority of growth in the global sweetener market is expected to come from plant-derived sweeteners such as stevia in the coming years.  The use of plant-based sweeteners has been increasing – in North America between 2011 and 2013, 28% of all food and beverages launched that included intense sweeteners used plant-derived sweeteners. The alternative plant-derived sweetener market is expected to grow as consumer’s concerns over health and sugar intake grows.
