In the first half of 2013 U.S. dairy exports up were up 16% from a year earlier and valued at $3.17 billion. Exports were higher across all major product categories and to all major markets. Exports of cheese, milk powder and butterfat all saw an increase of 9% over the half while New Zealand exports were up 4%, Argentina was down 11%, the EU was down 9%, and Australia was down 10%. Gains were made in exports to South East Asia, China and Algeria. The biggest product gainer was milk powder which saw a gain in exports in the second quarter of 29% from a year earlier to 159,365 tons.
