?16 million is being committed to 25 projects that are targeting innovative business ideas in support of UK agriculture. The funds form the third round of financing to be distributed through the ?70 million Agri Tech Catalyst.
Agri Tech Catalyst which is run by Innovate UK and BBSRC, supports research conducted by scientists and businesses in order to facilitate the rapid transition of technologies from the lab to the market.
Some of the 25 projects included in this round include, 3D camera technology that can identify when broccoli is ready for harvest, the ‘Sunshine Egg’, which is engineered to help reduce vitamin D deficiency in humans, an environmentally friendly heating and cooling system to enhance the living conditions of chickens, and satellite imagery technology that can help farmers identify the most opportune time to tend crops.
This incubator fund will help commercialize technologies that will help develop a highly skilled UK farming sector while also growing the country’s economy, improving the environment, and tackling global challenges in food and farming.
