USDA: Global Ethanol Production to Grow 40% Through 2022

 

The U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) released its report “USDA Agriculture Projections To 2022.” The report notes that long-run developments for global agriculture reflect steady world economic growth and continued demand for biofuels, concluding that there will be long term increases in consumption, trade and the prices of agricultural commodities.  The demand for biofuels is expected to increase and expansion will continue dependent on government policy.  Aggregate ethanol production in the U.S., Brazil, EU-27 member countries, Argentina, China, Canada and Indonesia will increase 40% in the next decade while biodiesel production will increase 30%.  Corn acreage in the U.S. will remain high in the near term and after several years of adjusting market increasing returns are expected to lead to a gradual increase of corn acreage to between 88 million and 92 million acres after 2015. Thirty-five percent of total corn production is expected to go to ethanol production through 2022.
