World Biodiesel Output Seen by Oil World Reaching Record

Global biodiesel production may rise by between 2 to 2.1 million tons to reach a record 29.1 million tons according to Oil World.  Palm oil used as a feedstock is gaining ground accounting for a third of global biodiesel output with 9.5-9.6 million tons of palm oil forecast to be used to make biodiesel in 2014 and Indonesia’s production of palm oil-based biodiesel may increase by 1.2 million tons to 3.8 million tons.  The EU used a record 6.9 million tons of palm oil in 2013 with 3.6 – 3.7 million tons used for energy.  Soybean oil used for biodiesel production is estimated to increase 300,000 tons to 7.3 million tons and soybean-derived biodiesel production in the U.S. is forecast for be 2.3 million tons.  Brazil’s biodiesel inclusion mandate will increase from 5% to 6% in July and assuming fulfillment, Brazil’s biodiesel production may increase 17% in 2014 to reach 3 million tons.  In 2015, upon reaching a 7% mandate, Brazil’s production may increase further to between 4 and 4.1 million tons.
