The significant growth of Australia’s almond industry will take the country’s production to 90,000 tons by 2017. This year’s estimated crop of 70,000 tons will see Australia overtake Spain as the world’s second largest almond producer and is now Australia’s largest horticultural export. According to the Almond Board of Australia, if consumption continues to grow at the current rate of 5% annually global demand will outstrip supply after 2014. India is Australia’s top market for almonds and the fastest growing.
