After gaining the notice of the global food market by acquiring Godiva in 2008, Yildiz Holding A.S. plans to expand its operations in North America with the purchase of DeMet’s Candy Company. Yildiz has signed a $221 million deal with the U.S. buyout firm Brynwood Partners to acquire DeMet’s which produces the Flipz chocolate-covered pretzels and Turtles brand chocolate-covered nut clusters. Brynwood acquired DeMet’s in 2003 from Nestle. DeMet’s has two factories in New York and Pennsylvania, and at the end of 2012 had $130 million in annual sales. DeMet’s existing production and sales channels will be used in conjunction with Godiva’s operations to sell Yildiz Holding products.
