$75 Million Upgrade at Port Kembla Will Double its Grain Export and Make Handling More Efficient by Rail

Noble, Cargill, and Emerald have joined together under the name Quattro Ports and are making a $75 million investment into Port Kembla at Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia.  In partnership with NSW Ports and Qube Holdings, Quattro Ports will build silos, dredge the port to allow for bigger bulk Panamax grain ships, and install conveyors that will link the new silos with the rail line.  The improvements should enable the facility to load 3,000 tons in a train and by the harvest of 2015 the port will be able to accept shipments of oilseeds and grains from across inland New South Wales by rail.  The upgrade to Port Kembla will increase competition and will challenge Australia’s giant GrainCorp. which has dominated the ports.
