Quebec-based dairy co-op Agropur as acquired the assets of Minnesota-based Davisco Foods International. The acquisition which includes three cheese processing plants, an ingredients plant, and worldwide sales offices will double the Canadian co-op’s U.S. milk processing business, will increased its global milk intake by 50%, and will reposition the company within the global dairy industry amid increasing consolidation. Agropur has also recently acquired dairy processing assets in Western Canada from Empire Co.’s Sobeys unit for US$332 million. The purchase price of the Davisco acquisition was not disclosed, however Agropur’s recent acquisitions will boost the company’s milk processing to approximately 12.1 billion pounds per year through 41 North American plants for annual sales totaling C$5.8 billion.
