UAE Minister of Finance Hamden bin Rashid stated that food security topped the list of main challenges facing Arab nations and noted that Arab agricultural projects did not meet the targeted increase of productivity to meet the growing demand for food. These shortfalls are mainly due to poor infrastructure, investment environment, financial resources and research. The food gap which reached $41 billion in 2010 is expected to grow to $89 billion by 2020 and closing the gap will require agricultural investments of $80.65 billion.
