Brazil Beef Exports Up 25% on Year in Early 2013

Brazil’s beef exports jumped 25% in the first quarter of 2013 because of a more favorable exchange rate and increased foreign demand.  The country shipped 324,500 tons of beef in the first three months of the year with profits reaching $1.44 billion – an increase of 18% despite the average price of beef falling 5.5%.  60% of the exports shipped to Russia, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Chile, Egypt and Europe.
