Chicken Expansion Plan Announced by Koch Foods

U.S. national poultry processor and distributor Koch Foods announced its plan for a $20 million expansion at its operations in Calhoun, Randolph, Clabourne, Clay, and St. Clair counties in Alabama.  The company’s expansion plan calls for the construction of between 120 and 150 chicken houses and should generate $6 million in total added annual income for area farmers.  Each farm involved in or associated with the expansion is required to complete an environmental waste management plan – made possible by funding through a $108,000 state grant.  According to the Alabama Poultry & Egg Association poultry has a $15.1 million impact on Alabama’s economy and generates more than 65% of the state’s agricultural sales.
