China’s Ministry of Commerce has announced that China has opened investigations into subsidies for EU wines given in 2012 and the impact on China’s wine industry between 2009 and 2012 after a May 15 request from the China Alcoholic Drink Association on behalf of the domestic wine industry. China’s wine imports equaled 430 million liters in 2012 with a value of $2.57 billion. The EU accounted for more than two thirds of these shipments. This announcement from China comes just one day after the EU announced tariffs as high as 67.9% on Chinese solar panels.
