The EU, a traditional wheat exporter, will likely be importing more U.S. wheat in the coming months as U.S. prices fall. U.S. wheat for February shipment is being priced at $315 per ton fob as opposed to French wheat at $342 per ton fob and German wheat at $361 per ton fob. 471,000 licenses are still available in the EU to purchase U.S. wheat. British imports are expected to increase significantly after a very poor harvest in 2012 – as high as 2.5 million tons – more than Saudi Arabia at 2.3 million tons. The EU is also expected to significantly increase maize imports as well. French analyst Strategie Grains expects British maize imports to equal 11.6 million tons as opposed to 6.3 million tons last season. The majority of these imports are expected to come from Ukraine, Brazil and Argentina.
