Fonterra Thinking Big in China

Fonterra has been working from a Shanghai base for more than 15 years selling 30 million liters of milk to local markets from its three farms it operates in country.  Within the next year the company plans to open two additional farms bringing in animals from New Zealand and the U.S.  Each farm has 5,000 head of cows with 3,500 milking and the company plans to expand to 30 farms with a production of 1 billion liters of milk a year by 2020.  Fonterra has experienced growth selling cream, butter, milk and cheese to the food service industry in China and the business has doubled in the last 5 years and would continue increasing by 25% a year.
