Agriculture accounts for approximately 15%-20% of Moroccan GDP and has become a significant sector for Spanish investors in particular because of geographical proximity. In the last five years, exports from the Community of Murcia have increased five-fold totally €400 million in 2012 according to Spanish President Ramón Luis Valcárcel. The Moroccan Minister of agriculture and fisheries announced that the Green Morocco Plan, an ambitious agriculture modernization program has resulted in an average growth of 32% in the agricultural GDP and a 43% growth in agricultural production in general. Spain now replaces France as Morocco’s number one trade partner in terms of imports and exports.
