Polish Poultry Industry Eyes New Investments

In 2013 the Polish poultry industry increased export sales of poultry meat by 9% to 699,000 tons compared to 2012 according to Poland’s Agricultural Market Agency.  Chicken meat dominated exports last year at 482,000 tons. Polish domestic consumer demand is on the rise as well.  In 2012 per capita consumption of poultry was 26.6 kg representing more than 37%of total Polish meat consumption per capita of 71.7 kg.  Upon the release of this data, Polish poultry processors are planning a number of investments with the goal of expanding both domestic and export sales.  Super Drob is planning to invest US$39.6 million to establish a new processing plant in Poland’s central region, and an additional US$13.2 million to open a new poultry farm.  PHP Karex has also announced plans to open a new poultry farm in Mechowo consisting of six poultry houses with a capacity of 50,000 head bringing total capacity to 600,000 head.
