Brazil is set to see broiler meat export volumes exceed 4 million tons next year becoming the world’s number one exporter in 2015 on increased shipments to Russia after that country banned exports from Western countries. Exports will reach 4.2 million tons next year – up 11.8% over the record 3.6 million tons expected to be shipped this year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) bureau in Brasilia. Russia has approved 38 Brazilian poultry plants for export, which is expected to increase poultry supplies in Russia by 30,000 tons per month by early next year, making Russia one of the top destination markets for Brazil’s chicken behind Saudi Arabia and Japan which imported 319,000 and 194,000 tons respectively in the first half of 2014. To meet the heightened export demand, Brazilian broiler meat production is forecast to increase 5% to a record 13.3 million tons next year. Brazil has ranked third globally behind the U.S. and China for broiler meat production, however China’s output is expected to decline by 650,000 tons this year to 12.7 million tons because of issues surrounding bird flu outbreaks.
