Russia Considers Lifting UK Beef Import Restrictions

Discussions between Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor and UK officials have been focusing on the UK system of veterinary inspections for meat products, exports authorization of meat companies to export products to Russia, the exportation of offal which is currently not allowed under export agreements, and restrictions on live cattle exports which Russia imposed on a number of countries after an outbreak of Schmallenberg virus.  Rosselkhoznadzor announced that it is ready to lift restrictions and allow UK companies to supply beef to the Russian market and expand the list of authorized UK suppliers.  Russia has been labeled as a top priority market by the UK, as UK companies have the potential to supply £108.8 million worth of beef and lamb to the country.
