According to Oleg Deripaska’s Kuban Agricultural Holding – Russia, which was once the world’s biggest wheat importer has the potential to as much as double its grain output. If Russia cultivates its 61.8 million acres of idle agricultural land and utilizes more efficient and modern technologies and fertilizers it could increase its grain harvest from its current 85-90 million tons to 150-170 million tons. As well as increasing yield, profitability in the sector would increase from the current 6%-10% to 15% if better management techniques are applied.
