Upon its successful takeover of Australia’s oldest dairy producer, Warrnambool Cheese & Butter (WCB) after a months-long three way battle with Bega Cheese and Murray Goulburn, Saputo states that the company is actively seeking further dairy acquisitions in Brazil, the U.S., and New Zealand. Within the past six months Saputo has spent US$536 million buying WCB and the milk unit of Canada’s Scotsburn Co-Operative services but is still seeking growth opportunities as it sees global demand for dairy continuing to rise, especially from China. Saputo has been scouting manufacturing sites in Brazil and is interested in smaller acquisitions in Australia to complement CWB, as well as making inroads into the New Zealand dairy sector – the world’s largest dairy exporter.
