Sojitz to Invest in Agricultural Business in Brazil

 

Japanese Sojitz Corp. is entering the grain production and collection agricultural sector in Brazil.  The company announced on October 22nd it is investing in Sao Paulo-based Catagalo General Grains SA and its subsidiary CGG Trading SA – both grain collection and export companies.  Through this investment Sojitz plans to purchase Brazilian soybeans, wheat, corn and other grains to sell to Japan and other Asian markets.  CGG has 150,000 hectares of farmland and collects 2 million tons of grain per year.  Sojitz, in partnership with CGG plans to increase these holdings to 200,000 hectares and increase grain handling to 6 million tons per year by 2020.
