Syngenta to Sell U.S. Fresh Produce Business

Syngenta announced that it has sold its California-based Dulcinea Farms business to Pacific Trellis Fruit LLC, a U.S.-based grower and international marketer of fresh produce.  Dulcinea was formed in 2004 initially as a vehicle to brand proprietary mini watermelons and specialty melon genetics in partnership with Tanimura & Antle.  Syngenta took full control of Dulcinea in 2005 and annual sales have increased to $80 million per year since.  Syngenta and Pacific Trellis Fruit have also signed a long-term agreement by which Syngenta will continue to provide Dulcinea with mini watermelons and specialty melon seed varieties.  Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed and the transaction is scheduled to be finalized by the end of 2013.
