Ukraine Faces Potential to Increase Meat Supply to EU

The signing of a free trade agreement with the EU will allow Ukraine to produce and export many times more beef and pork to the EU.  Preliminary agreements will allow duties on these meats to be lowered from 25% to 5%.  If Ukraine proceeds and signs the agreement with the EU, Russia has said it will block imports of a large number of Ukrainian products.  Ukraine currently supplies the EU with 1,000 tons of beef with 70% of its exports going to Russia.  The new agreement would see beef exports to the EU increase 12-fold to 12,000 tons.
