Australia Sees New H7 Bird Flu Outbreak

 

Authorities in Australia have confirmed an outbreak of the H7 bird flu at a 400,000 layer hen farm in New South Wales.  So far 18,000 birds have died from the virus and the remainder of the flock is to be culled.  Hong Kong has also banned poultry and eggs from Italy and Vietnam after outbreaks have occurred in those countries. The European Commission has confirmed a low-pathogenic H5 avian flu in the Lombardy region, and Vietnam has confirmed the occurrence of a highly-pathogenic strain of the H5N1 which has killed 370 birds on a duck and chicken farm in the Hoa Binh province.
