Offshore Mariculture Assessment

Because of the need to transfer land-based and coastal aquaculture further offshore in order to increase production, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has completed a global assessment to identify regions where offshore mariculture development would be a good option where land, coast space or freshwater is limited.  The assessment also identifies countries that do not yet practice mariculture but have a high potential to do so.  Offshore potential is compared for Atlantic salmon, cobia, blue mussels and integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA).
