Soybean Trade Near Lowest Since January on China Bird Flu Risk

Soybean futures fell this week to the lowest since January 11th and are heading for a 3% loss as the death toll from a new strain of bird flu in China rose, driving concerns that poultry meat consumption and feed use will slow in the world’s largest buyer of the oilseed. The death toll reported from China has reached six and officials in Shanghai closed a live poultry trading area and began culling bird there after the new bird flu H7N9 was detected in pigeon samples.
